Commissions
Renewal Comissions
- In order for an agent to receive renewal commissions in 2010 for 2009 effective business, the agent will be required to re-certify for 2010 by 12/31/09.
Cigna's compensation policy for 2010
Regarding Levels over Street.
- when an Agent using his/her own Social Security Number is set up at any level above Street, CIGNA will only pay the Street amount for his/her personal production. Street is Level 5 (aka Agent-1), so the Agent would be set up at Level 4 or higher. For business submitted via his/her subs, he/she would continue to receive the appropriate overwrite. This policy is being instituted by CIGNA as a safeguard against Agents receiving compensation beyond the CMS maximums. Here's what this means for Agents.
- Only Agents (using their SSN) who are both set up at Level 4 or higher and who submit production using their Agent number will be impacted. If set up at Level 5 or below, or if the Agent doesn't submit business using his/her Agent number, there will be no impact.
- If an Agent is set up at Level 4 or above and intends to generate personal production, there are 3 options:
a) Leave things as is, and simply not receive an overwrite on those sales. The Agent would, instead, be paid at Level 5 (Street).
b) If available, "swap" his/her Social Security Number for a FEIN, and then reassign the Agent, using their Social, under the FEIN as a LOA.
c) Refer the business to another Agent in his/her downline, and submit the business using the downline Agent's writing number.
EXAMPLE: If my AGENCY is set up at a level 5 and I'm PERSONALLY set up at a level 4 or level 0 (whatever) and I'm writing personal production which is going to my agency, do I get the override?
- YES, The agency is set up with a FEIN. The only problem is when an individual/sole proprietor is set up as an agency (using their SSN) and that person wants to write business personally. In that even, they cannot even be set up as a LOA, because there would then be duplicate Taxpayer ID numbers in the system and would, accordingly, "fall out".
